Lukashenka’s regime has unleashed the war against its own nation, and it is to result in the collapse of the dictatorship inevitably, the leader of “European Belarus” is convinced.
The coordinator of the civil campaign “European Belarus” Andrei Sannikov has made a statement in connection with intensification of repressions against the opposition in the country.
“The last eruption of aggression and violence against democratic opposition of Belarus demonstrates that the regime is at the last stage of its existence. Inability to solve economic problems, inability to protect health of people during the pandemic, absence of desire to reform the political system of Belarus are the things that confirm the character of the regime and its total bankruptcy. Deaths of democratic movement activists, causing human rights activists to commit suicide, threats to journalists and the latest two cases of abduction of youth leaders demonstrate the real and not demonstrative appearance of Lukashenka’s regime. All these facts are taking place only because of Europe’s policy of connivance, as for the sake of some transitory interests Europeans turning a blind eye to human rights violations in Belarus,” the politician said in an interview to charter97.org.
According to Sannikov, today we are witnessing training of death squads that are practicing their methods primarily on the young.
“Such impunity has become a result of the fact that cases of abducting public leaders and journalists are not investigated in Belarus. And Europeans prefer to turn a blind eye to that, although investigation of these cases was one of the demands for resuming relations with Lukashenka. It becomes more and more evident that the current regime in Belarus won’t cope with the economical, social, political challenges and would try to use the familiar methods: stepping up repressions against dissenters. As never before, we should show firmness and resolve, to be steadfast to our principles, to defend our rights and freedoms of citizens. It is a crime to kowtow to the regime that has overstepped the bounds of decency. We need solidarity. Lukashenka’s regime has unleashed the war against the people of Belarus, and it is to result in the collapse of the dictatorship inevitably,” the leader of “European Belarus” is convinced. |
