Demands to release political prisoners in Minsk

18.05.2010

A rally with a demand to release political prisoners was held in Minsk.

Activists of "European Belarus" civil campaign unfurled a poster "Freedom to political prisoners" in Independence Avenue near Chelyuskintsy park. The rally was a surprise for policemen, and none of the participants was detained.

We remind that on May 6 the Supreme Court of Belarus sentenced Mikalai Autukhovich to 5 years two months of imprisonment in a maximum security penal colony, Uladizmir Asipenka to 3 years in a standard regime penal colony. Two more accused, the former employee of Autukhovich's firm Alyaksandr Laryn and militia lieutenant colonel Mikhail Kazlou are sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment in a medium security penal colony and 2 years of imprisonment in a standard regime penal colony without a ban to occupy executive positions. Besides, "Young Front" activist Artsyom Dubski is in prison too.
