On November 16, a traditional action of solidarity was held on October Square in Minsk.
At 6:00 pm, about 30 people holding portraits of kidnapped Belarusian opposition members Viktar Hanchar, Yury Zakharanka, Anatol Krasouski, Zmitser Zavadski, political prisoner Mikalai Autukhovich and a poster “Freedom to Autukhovich!” formed a human chain on October Square. Politicians Paval Sevyarynets, Mikalai Statkevich, Zmitser Dashkevich, and Anatol Lyabedzka were among participants.
The demonstrators stood on the square for 20 minutes, then went to Engels Street through a pedestrian subway and moved to Lukashenka’s Administration. A cordon of plainclothes police blocked their way at Yanka Kupala Theatre. They didn’t allow the participants of the action to come closer to the administration building. Young men in mufti snatched portraits of disappeared politicians out of demonstrators’ hands. They didn’t show any identification badges or IDs.
The demonstrators formed a column in Engels Street shouted slogans “Freedom to Autukhovich!” and “Long live Belarus” and went away. According to preliminary information, nobody was detained.
