Kavalenka transferred to prison hospital in Minsk

Syarhei Kavalenka was sentenced to 2 years and one month in prison for violation of probation. Earlier, he was given a suspended sentence for hanging out a national white-red-white flag on a Christmas Tree in Vitsebsk.

Activist from Vitsebsk Syarhei Kavalenka was transferred from a detention centre in Vitsebsk to the hospital at Minsk detention centre No. 1 in the evenign of February 28, charter97.org reports.

The information appeared on February 29, when Syarhei Kavalenka's father, Alyaksandr Kavalennka, tried to visit his son in the detention centre in Vitsebsk, Radio Svaboda reports.

“They said he had been taken to the republican prison hospital in Minsk, but did not say why. I don't know if the reason is his state of health or anything else,” Alena Kavalenka said.

Alena Kavalenka had a meeting with her husband in the detention centre in Vitsebsk on February 28. According to her, Kavalenka was going to continue his hunger strike, though he already lost about 30 kilograms.
