Protesters against death penalty detained in Minsk

16.03.2012

The organizers of the rally planned to lay flowers near the commemorative plaque at Kastrychnitskaya metro station today at 5 p.m, charter97.org reports.

Minsk dwellers demanded a moratorium on death penalty and more thorough retrial in Kavalyou and Kanavalau’s case.

At about 4.45 p.m. journalists and several citizens gathered near the plaque, they laid flowers and lit candles.

A “tail” of people in mufti followed those who participated in the rally. Some of the participants were detained. All people who came there with flowers and candles, were videoed by policemen.

We remind that Alyaksandr Lukashenka refused to pardon Dzmitry Kanavalau and Uladzislau Kavalyou (Dmitry Konovalov and Vladislav Kovalev), who had been sentenced to death.
