Accused of Terrorism Kovalev Executed
Relatives of Vladislav Kovalev, condemned to death for complicity in the terrorist attack in Minsk subway, received a letter from the Supreme Court on March 16. According to the report, the sentence upon Vladislav Kovalev was carried out.
"Here it is… my Mom has just got it out of the box. The Supreme Court... a letter of March 16... the sentence was enforced... My mother has got it. They killed him; it was all in vain, in vain," said Tatiana, the sister of the executed, reports the Belarusian service of Radio "Liberty."
As Telegraf previously reported, March 14, it became known that President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko refused to pardon Dmitri Konovalov and Vladislav Kovalev, sentenced to death for the attack in Minsk subway and a series of other explosions. Relatives of Vladislav Kovalev sought a meeting with the President to find out the reasons for the refusal to pardon. Vladislav Kovalev’s mother, along with a lawyer, insisted on the meeting with her son.
The death penalty and the President's refusal to pardon the defendants in the notorious criminal case have been condemned by numerous international organizations and prominent European politicians. In addition, a protest against the death penalty was held in Minsk on March 16. |
