We Need Your Solidarity!
27 February 2006

We, the relatives of Belarusian political and public activists, who have disappeared, call on representatives of the international mass media and human rights groups.

Our family members, former Interior Minister Yuri Zakharenko, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Soviet Viktor Gonachar, entrepreneur Anatoly Krasovsky and journalist Dmitri Zavadsky, were kidnapped and murdered. None of these crimes has been solved.

The Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Legal Affairs and Human Rights suspects involvement in crimes against humanity, including organization and execution of forced kidnappings and murder, of head of the electoral staff of Aleksander Lukashenko Viktor Sheiman, former Interior Minister Yuri Sivakov, current Interior Minister Vladimir Naumov, and Commander of Special Response Group Dmitry Pavlichenko.

The Chairman of the Subcommittee on Human Rights of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Christos Pourgurides called upon all those who have dispose of any information on kidnappings to contact the Council of Europe.

We hereby request your help in disseminating this information regarding the disappearances in Belarus and hope that your solidarity will lead to an objective investigation of the kidnappings of our family members and the return of justice and the rule of law to Belarus.
